DVD playing came into prominence in the 1990’s with the ushering out of the VHS technology. However, for a while both existed together and we still had our “VHS” video recorders. Along came digital; the recorders were smaller, the quality was, eventually, better, and the costs came plummeting through the floor. So now, we have this information; these special occasions we want to save and share, and now we also have the capability to do this with even more stealth; greater ease.
DVD backup can move the read or write heads to any random part of the disc drive in a short amount of time; unlike tape which is wound so to get from reel to reel to read a particular slice of data takes a considerable amount of time. DVD backup is also quite easy to do yourself as all you really need is one DVD player and the digital source material which assist in the storage of multiple copies of tapes which increases archival capacity of important information. If you don’t have the source material you can always get that second DVD player for your DVD backup. DVD backup software is often available as an add on to whatever unit you’ve got for very inexpensive or as a free download with some identifying information which puts you as the purchaser of the unit. This type of software is often paramount in the strengthening of your DVD backup library. An external DVD backup system is often found to be very effective for those with an even greater need for privacy, reliability, and sectioning this bit of information off from everything else. DVD backup companies naturally offer up a Windows based solution for doubly backing up your material. Remember though, that Windows is just as reliable as the computer it’s working on, and that even if your DVD backup is backed up on your Windows solution, you may chose to back that up on an external hard drive if you feel it’s important enough to take all this time with to begin with. DVD backup is the wave of the future for all our information storage, retrieval, and backup information. There are so many digital alternatives that are available for you to consider. Just be warned; just as tape can break or become erased; digital can get scrambled, digital can skip, digital can disappear. As a practical matter there should be some combination of the two for your storage needs. However cost, space, and time can all play heavily into the discussion, so judge your resources and the importance of the overall project, weigh your options, then make your choice
