File sharing. If I had to ask, “what does file sharing mean to me?” I’d say that my biggest concern from file sharing would have to be “cell sharing.” I have no real interest in downloading a perhaps contaminated file to my pure, virginal computer; furthermore, I have absolutely no interest in downloading a civil crime that can perhaps get me fined or arrested.
I’ve never done this, P2P. My younger brother did though and I remember his being totally into it; this was something that lasted for years. I also remember when he stopped. He actually shelved the computer for a bit; he swore the CPU away; he’s come back around to the usefulness of a computer for both work and communication; but the P2P movement hit everyone pretty hard. As it stands in early 2007, P2P file sharing is still completely legal…unless it’s copyrighted. Save those tapping the root from North of the border in Canada (where users are protected from P2P lawsuits) the downloading of P2P files in any other country may put you at risk for civil suit. Typically class action suits against people who blatantly copy and pass around protected material. You can think you won’t get caught but think again! Your ISP has the right and the moral obligation to release logs to the proper authorities. The more you download, the greater the risk that you are sued, so you should know these risks. Recently in England and Australia, the MPAA and the RIAA when after thousands of users; taking them to court and demanding they pay thousands. However if you insist on keeping the spirit of 1995 alive, there are numerous viable file sharing websites for you to choose from. Demonoid is one of these file sharing websites that’s a favorite among PC users. Isohunt.com is under stringent restraints in the Supreme Court lawsuit, but it’s still up for the time being. TorrentTyphoon.com is another favorite of users as it’s exceptional at locating the most popular sites. The Pirate Bay is another site with restricted operations but is a favorite among users. Scrapetorrent.com is another, newer site which is gaining in popularity. There are literally thousands of other sites for P2P file sharing with new ones popping up every day and new ones closing down every day. You’ve got to use the most discerning judgment in selecting your sites and selecting our P2P files.
